Veterans Education and Training at the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education is the State Approving Agency responsible for approving and supervising Veteran’s Education programs at in-state postsecondary institutions and career training centers offering education and training to veterans and their eligible beneficiaries.
South Carolina's SAA is a part of the National Association of State Approving Agencies, which is comprised of state agencies that operate on behalf of the federal government to approve training available through the GI Bill®.
"As SAAs continue to approve education institutions for independent study and distance learning, we must ensure that these institutions, whether they be for-profit, nonprofit, or public, are providing true and correct quality training to our veterans and those eligible to receive VA education benefits," said Frank Myers, South Carolina's Director of SAA and current president of the NASAA.
In the FY 23 NASAA Annual Report, Myers listed several current factors that will have an impact on veteran's education in the coming future. Some key observations included:
- More and more students are turning to online programs so that they can continue with their employment at the same time, which requires State Approving Agencies to approve quality online programs.
- With the return of Supervisory Visits to State Approving Agencies, Myers said this will present an opportunity to reestablish a stronger presence within the educational community.
- He also paised the strong partnership between the NASAA and the Department of Veterans Affairs and how, together, it will lead to greater success for all involved.
