CHE joins the education community across the state in mourning the passing of Joseph R. Pye, a lifelong South Carolina educator and longtime member of CHE’s Scholarship Appeals Committee.

Pye devoted more than five decades to public education, including 23 years as superintendent of Dorchester School District Two. In addition to his leadership in K–12 education, he generously shared his time and expertise with CHE and as a Scholarship Appeals Committee member he helped ensure fairness and thoughtful consideration for South Carolina students seeking to maintain access to state merit scholarships.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Pye family and all who were touched by his life and service.
