Palmetto Fellows Scholarship application process going digital in May

Thu, 04/18/2024

A new software platform will soon allow the CHE to digitally process applications for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, beginning with 2024 late applications in May.

The Palmetto Fellows Scholarship is a merit-based program recognizing the most academically talented high school seniors and encouraging these students to attend college in the state. Palmetto Fellows Scholarship applications must be submitted by high school counselors rather than students or parents: in academic year 2022-23 a total of 8,974 students received nearly $72 million dollars through the scholarship.

“This shift will not only alleviate the burdens high school counselors face with paper-based systems, it also ensures a more seamless processing of scholarship applications,” said Kathryn Harris, scholarships and grants program manager for the CHE Office of Student Affairs. “We remain committed to optimizing our resources and providing the best possible support to our students on their educational journey.”

Palmetto Fellows may receive up to $6,700 their freshman year and up to $7,500 for their sophomore, junior and senior years. A Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Enhancement was established in 2007 for students majoring in mathematics and science. Enhancement-eligible students may receive up to $10,000 per year.

CHE Student Affairs will host four virtual workshops for counselors in May to detail the new digital application process, specifically focusing on how the applications can be successfully submitted electronically.
