PASCAL adds workforce-focused exam prep e-library for member institutions

Tue, 12/20/2022

The Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL) is adding the Mometrix eLibrary for all member institutions to their core e-resources package to better prepare South Carolina students as they enter the workforce.

Mometrix eLibrary is a robust database of test preparation materials for career and professional certifications. The eLibrary includes study materials for over 1,800 different exams covering 16 different subject areas including nursing, teaching, construction, social work, finance, med-tech, and law.

The collection also includes college preparation materials that will help students prepare for AP exams, college entrance exams, and other professional school exams.

“I’m excited that PASCAL is able to provide Mometrix for students around the state," said Dr. Richard Moniz, Library Director at Horry-Georgetown Technical College and PASCAL board chair. "The eLibrary supports such a wide variety of academic programs and bolsters efforts by both the Commission on Higher Education and the South Carolina Technical College System to ensure graduates of the state’s two-year and four-year institutions are work force ready.”

Using lottery funds provided by the South Carolina General Assembly, PASCAL negotiated an initial three-year deal with the vendor, providing significant cost savings over what libraries would have had to spend to purchase the resource on their own individually.

Access to the Mometrix eLibrary will be available to both on-and off-campus users at all PASCAL member institutions by the start of spring semester.

The CHE serves as the fiscal agent for PASCAL, a consortium of South Carolina’s academic libraries and state agency partners, fosters cooperation for shared licensing of electronic resources, universal borrowing, ILS hosting, and affordable learning. PASCAL serving over 220,000 students at 57 colleges and universities across the state through multiple programs including a Shared Library Services Platform for 55 member libraries; statewide rapid print-delivery service; core electronic resources, including a robust shared e-book program. Visit the PASCAL website for additional information on programs and services they provide to institutions and students.
